DJANGOLOGIE

Hot club inspired bands are far from a rarity on the U.K jazz scene, but what marks Djangologie out as something special is the way they take the original spirit of the music and breathe new life into it. Noted for the way that they maintain the swinging spirit of the great Reinhardt-Grappelli ensembles but without trying to be a carbon copy, the music of Djangologie is firmly rooted in the Hot Club sound of the swing era. This can be found in the virtuosic performances of time honoured 1930’s hot club classics and a repertoire of exquisitely written gypsy jazz originals. This is inspired rather than deferential homage.

All four members share a detailed understanding of the gypsy jazz tradition, coupled with a broader appreciation of the developments in jazz throughout the 20th century. It is with this that they are able to generate the sound and excitement of the Hot Club du France ensembles whilst preserving their own unique identity. Played with virtuoso brio by four of the finest exponents of the style, the essential commitment to music rooted in the sound of Django Reinhardt remains absolutely at the heart of their approach.

With their intense brand of swing, Djangologie continue to draw, thrill and entertain ever-increasing audience numbers. Converting the new and definitely supplying the goods to any hot club aficionado. However you choose to describe the music, one thing is indisputable - it really is tres bonne.

LITTLE BIG BAND

Taking it's influence from the great swing bands of the 40/50's. The little big band takes a five piece horn section, adds a swinging rhythm section and a bit of rockabilly for good measure. Topped of with great vocals it's guaranteed to have the dancers on their feet all night.

PAUL EDIS SEXTET

Led by a ‘brilliant young pianist’ (Alyn Shipton, The Guardian) the Paul Edis Sextet is steeped in the straight-ahead tradition, but with an original and contemporary edge. Their debut album There Will Be Time was voted 3rd best album of 2012 best album of 2012 (Alyn Shipton, Jazzwise).

With a front line of Trumpet, Tenor Sax and Trombone, the sound is reminiscent of the great Art Blakey ensemble, but if this is music that has its roots in the 1960s, its blossoms are absolutely of today! With some intricate arrangements, solid grooves and exquisite melodies, this group has wowed audiences and critics alike with their performances to date.

Paul Edis – Piano
Graham Hardy – Trumpet/Flugel
Graeme B Wilson – Tenor/Baritone Saxophone

“A new voice in jazz…a real jazz composer…a very thoughtful improviser”

SWING MANOUCHE

TUG

Elements of Funk, Soul, Jazz and Improv come together with a shifting front line of trumpet/saxes and trombone in this ensemble to create music that is ever changing and unpredictable.

MICK SHOULDER QUINTET

The classic sound of 50's hard bop. Mostly playing the music of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Tubby Hayes Jazz Couriers but with a fair smattering of classic Blue Note.
